Project Focus: Cheeky Pokē

DCB NAMED 2019 FINALIST IN THE ASOFIA INTERIOR FITOUT AWARDS FOR THIS PROJECT.

Pokē bowls have been a large part of Hawaiian and Japanese culture for centuries. The team at Cheeky Pokē Bar have added their own Aussie twist to them, bringing them bang up to date and onto the radar of the savvy locals at Brisbane’s bustling riverside suburb of Newstead. To complement this new flavour, DCB Developments were engaged to create this luxe modern fitout, where the food, music and of course the interior all combine into an atmosphere that both locals and visitors will savour.

The DCB Developments team has extensive experience in the food and beverage industry, and they take great pride in understanding spaces from an operational and functional point of view whilst still providing the high end finished product they are so well known for. This tidy fit out features solid brass fixtures & fittings throughout, a polished render finish to the walls and extensive, built-in custom banquet seating. The design flows invitingly by cleverly pairing the sleek straight-edged tables and booths with circular overhead lighting, large elegant round brass planters and the stunning custom-built round timber booth which comfortably seats large groups of patrons in the heart of the restaurant.

This project was squeezed to an extremely tight turnaround due to time on a low emission mechanical exhaust system, so all fitout works were compressed to a four week period; the entire start to finish period ending up at exactly seven weeks and two days! The DCB Developments team had to meticulously coordinate materials and trades to make sure this detailed design grew into the desired end result for their client.

The finished bar is relaxed yet super-cool, with their signature vibrant royal blue brought down to earth by the natural textures and tones of timber, brass and stone.

DCB Developments have been declared ‘part of the family’ by the Cheeky team and are already lined up this year to complete the fit out of their next pokē bar opening at the new restaurant precinct in West End, as well as working on the rebrand of their well-known ‘Fresh n Wild Fish’ seafood purveyors at Portside as it becomes ‘Cheeky Fish Bar’.
